Questions About Our
Process & Services

Answers to the most common questions we receive from Northeast Atlanta homeowners about hardscaping, landscaping, and outdoor living projects.

Section 01

Hardscaping & Materials

Techo-Bloc Preferred Contractor status requires demonstrated installation quality, project volume, and trained crews. It also gives us access to the full Techo-Bloc product line — including architectural pavers and wall systems that aren't available at standard retailers. Not every contractor who wants to use Techo-Bloc products can become a Preferred Contractor.

A properly installed paver patio — with correct base depth, drainage slope, edge restraint, and polymeric joint sand — should last 20–30 years with minimal maintenance. The surface pavers themselves don't fail. What fails is the base underneath them, when it wasn't built correctly. We build the base to last.

Concrete is poured as one continuous slab and develops hairline cracks within 3–5 years as it heats, cools, and shifts. Pavers are individual units set in a flexible base — they move with the ground rather than cracking. Individual pavers can also be removed and reset if needed, which a cracked concrete slab cannot. We almost always recommend pavers over poured concrete for residential outdoor spaces.

We excavate to stable mineral subgrade — typically 8–10 inches below finished surface in Georgia's clay soils. Above that: 4–6 inches of compacted crushed granite, 1 inch of screeded concrete sand, then the pavers. Most budget installations skip the full excavation depth. That difference shows up in year two.

Yes. As a Techo-Bloc Preferred Contractor, we install the full Techo-Bloc product line. We also work with other premium paver manufacturers depending on the project requirements. We'll present options at the design stage.

Outdoor Kitchens & Features

Entry-level outdoor kitchens with basic grill station, minimal counter space, and no cover run $8,000–$15,000. Mid-range builds with refrigeration, bar seating, full counter run, and pergola overhead run $20,000–$45,000. High-end custom kitchens with pizza ovens, specialty appliances, full masonry construction, and integrated lighting can exceed $80,000. Most of our clients in the Suwanee, Johns Creek, and Alpharetta area are in the $25,000–$55,000 range.

Gas is lower maintenance and gives you instant on/off control. Wood gives you the authentic fire experience and the smell. Most of our clients choose gas for convenience unless they specifically want the wood-burning experience. We install both — and we can convert an existing wood-burning fire pit to gas if needed.

Design and material lead time: 2–3 weeks. Construction: 5–10 business days depending on scope. If the kitchen includes a masonry fireplace or significant hardscape surround, add additional time. We provide a written timeline before construction begins.

Section 03

Pools & Water Features

We do not install in-ground pools. We do all the work around the pool — pool deck resurfacing, coping, surrounding hardscape, water features, outdoor living areas adjacent to the pool. If you need a pool builder and a hardscape contractor, we're the hardscape side of that partnership.

Travertine-look porcelain pavers are our most popular recommendation — stain resistant, non-slip texture that holds in wet conditions, and light enough to manage heat in Georgia summer sun. Natural travertine is beautiful but more porous. Tumbled concrete pavers are a more economical option that reads as natural stone. All three significantly outperform plain concrete on safety and longevity.

Process & Pricing

Yes. Every project above a certain threshold includes a 3D rendered design before construction begins. You see the finished installation — in your actual backyard — before we place the first stone. This prevents the most common source of dissatisfaction in outdoor projects: misaligned expectations.

Peak season (April–October) we typically book 4–8 weeks out. Off-season (November–March) is shorter. We recommend contacting us as early as possible if you have a project deadline.
